Challenge

Characterised by it’s high-rise buildings, the Cuauhtémoc neighbourhood is located in the centre of Mexico City. The challenge for this project was to create a space that could allow people working in the area to disconnect from work. Moreover, the intention was to allow people to escape from the noise and chaos of the city and give them a feeling of being on holidays.

Naming

The name Mariola sounds just like ‘mar y ola’ (sea and waves), which make reference to the beach and holidays. But it is also a feminine name, which suggests the security and warmness that knowing the name of the person who’s in charge of the kitchen gives us. Mariola brings to mind a kind woman, a great host that welcomes each of her guests with affection.

Concept

The graphic concept for Mariola contrasts with the graphic trends of the area. The goal was to create an all inclusive concept expressing the joy and relaxed vibes of Mexican beaches; the spirit of the coast, where life is simpler, calmer and tastier.

Identity

The graphic profile bases its behaviour on a series of free stroke illustrations. Cartoon-like figures are used on various applications and the type plays with thin and thick characters, all to transmit the relaxed personality of the brand.
